Celebrity Cruises sailed its first cruise in 1990 and today operates under the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line umbrella. In 1995 Celebrity Cruises launched their Century Class fleet and then merged with Royal Caribbean in 1997. The first of the Millennium-class ships, the Celebrity Millennium, made her debut in 2000 featuring the industry’s first gas turbine engines that reduce exhaust emissions. Her sister ships are Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Constellation.
Celebrity Cruises continued to offer industry firsts with Acupuncture at Sea in 2003 and string of industry firsts that were featured on the Solstice-class ships. In 2008, the Celebrity Solstice was introduced with features such as solar technology, growing grass at the Lawn Club, and a Hot Glass Show at sea. Other Solstice-class ships include Celebrity Equinox, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection.
Celebrity Cruises “Solsticized” its Millennium-class ships in 2011 and 2012 with stateroom restyling and introduced many of the dining and bar options found on the Solstice-class vessels.
Celebrity Cruises offers a more premium product in comparison to its sister brand, Royal Caribbean International. Their demographic of passenger tends to be sophisticated, adult couples although they do have children and teen facilities and programming for kids 3 to 17. They employ an international crew.
