Port and Shopping Guide

There are two main concessionary companies that recruit the Port and Shopping Guides for cruise ships (depending on cruise line), PPI Group and Onboard Media. Both companies recruit for basically the same type of position although the titles are slightly different.

Other Job Titles:  Port and Shopping Presenter (PPI Group) and Port and Shopping Guide (Onboard Media)

Job Description:  Responsible for the shipboard port and shopping program; Conduct presentations to large audiences; Offer product seminars; Educate the guests on where to shop in port and what to buy; Promotes luxury items such as jewellery, watches, specialty items and souvenirs; Meets with shore-side vendor representatives to develop sales and marketing plans.

Experience and Skills Required:  Candidates for the Port and Shopping Guide must be well spoken, sales orientated, self-motivated and charismatic; Proven sales experience is required; Management experience is preferred.

Average Salary:  $2,000 to $3,000 per month

 

Loyalty and Cruise Sales Manager

This position is a combined position covering the jobs of Loyalty and Cruise Sales Manager. Some cruise ships divide the duties between two positions, Loyalty Manager and Cruise Sales Manager.

Note:  Here are some of the different cruise line’s loyalty programs:  Crown & Anchor Society (Royal Caribbean), Captain’s Club (Celebrity Cruises), Captain Circle (Princess Cruises), Latitudes (NCL), Mariner Society (Holland America), World Clubs (Cunard Line), VIFP Club (Carnival Cruise Lines).

Loyalty Manager Job Description:  This position oversees the past passenger program on the cruise ship; Administers past passenger benefits; Works scheduled desk hours; Coordinates and hosts past passenger cocktail parties and luncheons.

Cruise Sales Manager Job Description:  This position oversees the sales for future cruises; Conducts presentations about future cruises to audiences throughout the cruise; Works scheduled desk hours; Assists Loyalty Manager with passenger cocktail parties; Attends all guest cocktail parties; Expected to meet and exceed sales targets.

Experience and Skills Required:  Exceptional knowledge of the cruise line’s past passenger program; Extensive knowledge of the cruise line’s fleet and itineraries; Excellent communication skills; Managerial and sales experience preferred.

Average Salary:  $2,000 to $3,000 per month (depends on bonuses and commissions)

 

Uniform Master

Job Description:  This unique position is responsible for issuing uniforms to crew and officers; Works closely with all departments; Orders uniforms as authorized by department heads; Maintains the uniform inventory.

Experience and Skills Required:  Related experience is required; Experience in a storeroom is also an asset.

Average Salary:  $600 to $1,000 per month

 

Art Auctioneer

Many cruise lines have onboard art auctions throughout the cruise. The concession responsible for recruiting and employing the Art Auctioneer depends on the cruise line. For example, British American Auctions (Celebrity Cruises), Fine Art Management (Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America), Plymouth Auctioneering (NCL, Carnival Cruise Lines, Regent Seven Seas Cruises), Whitewall Gallery (P&O Cruises, Cunard Line)

Other Job Titles:  Art Auctioneer (Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America, Princess Cruises), Art Director (Celebrity Cruises), (P&O Cruises), Gallery Manager (P&O Cruises, Cunard Line), Art Sales Consultant ((P&O Cruises, Cunard Line)

Job Description:  The Gallery Manager / Art Auctioneer is responsible for overseeing the onboard art gallery and art program; Duties include selling art through auctions or in the gallery; Must meet or exceed sales targets.

Experience and Skills Required:  Knowledge of art required; Proven sales experience is a priority; Candidate must have proven public speaking and presenting skills.

Average Salary:  $2,000 and up per month (Depends on size of ship, itinerary and commissions)

 

Art Steward

Job Description:  Assists the Art Auctioneer in moving art work from one location to another; Assists Art Auctioneer during auction by moving pieces of art as required. The Art Steward is part of the Housekeeping department and may have other duties such as cleaning public areas.

Experience and Skills Required:  This position is physical and requires the candidate to be physically fit.

Average Salary:  $700 to $1,000
