Computer Officer

Other Job Titles:  Computer Officer (Princess Cruises), Systems Officer (Royal Caribbean), Information Systems Manager (Carnival Cruise Lines), Systems Manager (NCL, Oceania Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises), Data Systems Manager (Celebrity Cruises)

Job Description:  Responsible for maintenance and repair of onboard computer networks, systems, and hardware; Works closely with all other shipboard departments; Provides 24 hour computer support to onboard users.

Experience and Skills Required:  Experience in specific shipboard network systems (may vary between cruise lines); Experience in systems such as POS (point of sale), guest security systems, electronic door lock systems, and PC networks; Knowledge of common software such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, Cruise Fidelio, AMOS are an asset; Post secondary education in Computer Science is required. Shipboard experience is preferred.

Typical Rank:  2-striped Officer

Average Salary:  $2,500 to $4,000 per month

 

Assistant Computer Officer

Other Job Titles:  Assistant Computer Officer (Princess Cruises), Assistant Systems Officer (Royal Caribbean), Assistant Info Systems Manager (Carnival Cruise Lines), Assistant Systems Manager (NCL, Oceania Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises), Assistant Data Systems Manager (Celebrity Cruises)

Job Description:  Depending on the size of a ship will determine the need for an assistant computer officer; Assists the Computer Officer as directed.

Experience and Skills Required:  Experience in specific shipboard network systems (may vary between cruise lines); Types of systems include POS (point of sale), guest security systems, electronic door lock systems, and PC networks; Knowledge of common software such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, Cruise Fidelio, AMOS are an asset; Post secondary education in Computer Science is required.

Typical Rank:  1-striped officer

Average Salary:  $2,000 to $3,000 per month

 

iLounge Macologist

Other Job Titles:  The iLounge Macologist is a cruise job specific to Celebrity Cruises and select Royal Caribbean ships that have an iLounge.

Job Description:  Maximizes revenue on the Apple products sold onboard; Manages the onboard internet cafe; Offers computer instructor on Apple/Mac products.

Experience and Skills Required:  Applicants must have a minimum of three years experience working in an Apple/Mac environment. Candidates should also have guest service experience.

Average Salary:  $1,500 to $2,500 per month

 

Internet Manager

Other Job Titles:  Online Manager (Celebrity Cruises)

Job Description:  Oversees the operation of the shipboard Internet Cafe for guests. Provides support for internet cafe users; Trouble shoots hardware or internet problems in the internet cafe; Assists guests with questions in the internet cafe;

Experience and Skills Required:  Candidate must have experience working with computers, internet access, and popular software applications; Minimum of one year experience working in a computer help desk environment preferred; Accounting and point of sale experience is an asset. Post secondary education in Information Technology is also preferred.

Average Salary:  $1,500 to $2,500

 

Computer Instructor

Other Job Titles:  Techspert (HAL)

Job Description:  Teaches engaging computer training classes to guests.

Experience and Skills Required:  Teaching experience preferred; Excellent public speaking skills are required; Proficient in using PowerPoint as a teaching tool.

Average Salary:  $0 to $2,000 per month. With some cruise lines the Computer Instructor is hired as a Guest Lecturer and may not be a paid position. Other contracts may pay the instructor based on how many guests attend their workshops. In the case of HAL’s Techspert, that position is actually part of the Entertainment Department and is a paid cruise job.
